Mary Maplesden-Galloway Obituary
Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 5, 2023.
Our family is deeply saddened to share the announcement of MaryJane Maplesden Galloway's unexpected and untimely death on the afternoon of Sunday, November 26th, 2023. By her side were her beloved family members.
Mary Jane (Janie) was born in Clifton, Texas on November 27th, 1951, the third child to the late Elizabeth (Rawlings) Maplesden and the late Douglas Maplesden.
Her early years were spent in Texas, New York State and Ontario. She moved with her family from Ontario to New Jersey in 1964 where she attended Somerville High School and later Endicott College in Massachusetts where she studied photography. Jane returned to NJ where she lived in Rosemont, along the Delaware river restoring "Cross Keys," a historical property. She moved to Marshallton, Pennsylvania in the mid 1980's and enjoyed many years restoring her Federal era home. She worked for the County of Chester and enjoyed her vacations in Ocean City, Maryland where she moved permanently in 2021 with her beloved husband, Skip.
Jane had an amazing smile, captivating eyes, a remarkable laugh and most importantly a beautiful heart. Highly artistic, creative and generous, she was a true Renaissance woman: a dancer, a painter, a curator and, her greatest love, being a mother. Everything Jane did, she did with excellence and grace. She was accomplished at restoring old homes and she had a passion for collecting antiques. She was committed to charitable giving and never hesitated to help someone in need. If you were to ask she would say "Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for thereby some have entertained angels unawares."
She was a lover of literature. Over the last decade Jane began oil painting in earnest and was a part of the Chester County Art Association. She became quite talented as most of her peers and family members would agree but remained incredibly humble and protective of her art. She has left behind some incredible pieces.
She was blessed with love from her husband for over 32 years, David (Skip) Galloway and the light of her life, daughter Mallory Pambianchi (Michael Mullan). She leaves behind her brother and sisters, Anne Hopkins, John Maplesden, Joann Maplesden Taylor and their families. She maintained remarkable long, loving and loyal friendships with her family and dear friends. Our memories will keep her a part of our worlds.
Jane will be laid to rest in the Bradford Cemetery in Marshallton, PA directly behind her home for 36 years. A memorial service will be held later this spring at the old family home at 565 Northbrook Road, West Chester, Pa. All Jane's friends and family are welcome.
